Peter Updates

March 14, 2021

Good morning.

This is the day the LORD has made! Rejoice, and be glad in it! Lisa and I are beyond grateful for your continued prayers and many expressions of love, concern, and support. As most of you know, I was released from the hospital last Sunday and returned home without the need of oxygen support. Glory to God!!

I have had a good week at home of slow and incremental improvement in my strength and stamina. I no longer need a walker for assistance, and Friday and Saturday I was able to walk a mile. It took me a little over 30 minutes, but hey, it happened. 🤣 Please continue to pray that each day both my mental awareness and my physical stamina are strengthened by the Spirit of God.

I leave you this passage from Psalm 90:12:

“So teach us to consider our mortality, so that we might live wisely.”

Psalm 90:12 NET

Much love, Peter

Peter Is Back Home!!!

March 6, 2021

9pm

Progressing faster now - the medical team actually turned off the oxygen/cannula completely this afternoon at 2:00pm to see if Peter could hold his saturation on room air. AND he did GREAT - dropped a bit when he moved around but recovered quickly and completely when resting, which is perfect! He may not even have to leave the hospital with oxygen - which is HUGE, and almost unheard of with COVID patients with his level of serious infection.  He is still pretty weak and requires a walker but we are so glad of every step - and have hopes of discharge tomorrow or Monday. 👏👏 Had a Family Zoom session tonight and everyone commented on how great he looked!

We are so blessed and grateful for all your prayers and support and are absolutely convinced that God has brought healing and protection in these days as a result of your prayers! Thank you!

-Love, Lisa & Family

10pm

Today continued the progress of healing. Peter was reduced to 6 liters per minute and was released from isolation as he is at day 21. He walked in the room, took a shower and also was able to walk up and down the halls of 2 Main. He is faithfully using his incentive spirometer and doing his leg exercises. I was able to come into his room, bring dinner and anniversary treats and we watched a movie on PrimeVideo. God is so good to make his release from isolation happen on the day of our 38th anniversary!

❤ Still grateful for your prayers for strength and reduction of oxygen flow rate so that we can bring him home!

Today was another day of steady progress. Peter is now on 9lpm of oxygen via nasal cannula. And he is maintaining 90 to 95% saturation. It dips a bit when he is walking and moving but comes right back up - which is a great sign! He worked with Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy today and is mobile again with a walker and free to move about the room as tolerated. He is exercising his lungs with an inspirometer and doing simple leg exercises - all to build strength and stamina. After spending most of the day up in a chair (a first since admission), we DoorDash'ed him enchiladas for dinner from his favorite - Mesa Rosa - as a reward! We just wrapped up a Zoom call with friends and family - and he is headed to bed! He is thankful for all your prayers and all the ways that God is answering!🙏

UPDATE from the family of Peter:

Last night was the best night of rest Peter has gotten in almost 3 weeks and today was a good day! He remains on the standard nasal cannula and the flow rate was turned down to 10 lpm by this afternoon (from 14 lpm). His O2 saturation is staying good so far - the doc wants him above 88% - but he has maintained from 91 to 99%. He has to be weaned to 5 lpm in order to qualify for discharge. All meds remain the same and he is still on fluid restrictions due to the kidney injury - but that is improving every day. His cultures have remained negative (no additional big bad 'bug' has infected his lungs other than COVID). He successfully ordered and received his salmon and roasted sweet potatoes for dinner this evening and he declared them 'delicious'! So yay for that! -- He remains very weak and is easily fatigued but is faithfully working the exercises he has been given thus far. Wrapped up today with another family Zoom session so we could 'see' our guy for ourselves and get the only interaction we are allowed in these strange days! He is so so grateful for your prayers (and we are too!) and asks that you continue to pray big prayers for healing!

11am

Peter wants you to know there are no major changes this morning.  His Respiratory team continues to monitor him on the regular nasal cannula as his need for an outside oxygen source decreases. Doctors are continuing meds

Peter appreciates your prayers and will update again soon.

March 2, 2021

4:30pm

Peter wants you to know that the Respiratory Therapy team changed him to a regular nasal cannula because his need for an outside oxygen source is decreasing- Even with this change his oxygen levels remain at 97-98% which is very good progress. It’s also much more comfortable than the previous cannula! All doctors notes indicate they will continue the current meds (antibiotics, steroids, etc) and work to reduce oxygen flow as tolerated. But all is stable.  Good report!! 👏🏼👏🏼

9:30am

Peter wants you to know that he had a restful night and got a solid 6 hours even though the high flow cannula is pretty uncomfortable. He is enjoying his breakfast (well except for the Turkey sausage 😂). Today’s plan is to continue to work on weaning the oxygen. They plan to have him lay on his stomach today to work on improving oxygenation.

March 1, 2021

8:30pm

Peter wants you to know that he’s feeling a bit less pain than previous days & feels like today was a better day for him over all.

His breathing is a bit improved.

9am

An Update from Peter: I’ve been moved out of ICU. My BP has returned to its normal range. I’m still at 60% high flow on nasal cannula but the goal is to lower it a little at a time moving forward. My breathing rate has improved slightly & I was able to sleep all night long. 👏🏽

I thank you for all your prayers and will continue to update you thru this page.

February 28, 2021

5pm

Peter’s oxygen levels have continued to be safe so they are moving him out of the ICU into a less intensive area. His heart does not show any damage due to the virus and his lungs are still inflating normally.

Praise God for this progress! He is still experiencing discomfort in his chest due to the pneumonia and they are still working to regulate his blood pressure.

9am

He finally got moved to ICU about 4:30am. He said he slept good from about 10:00 to 3:00. His breathing is still holding steady running O2 Sats around 97% even though they’ve weaned his oxygen to 40% FiO2 (that’s down from 50% - so that’s good). He was texting ‘Good Morning’ to everybody early (and got ignored because everyone was still asleep 😂) - and just ordered breakfast. Definitely signs of the normal Peter returning!

February 27, 2021

7:30pm

Peter is still in ER but they are taking really good care of him there. The ICU is still full so it looks like he is staying the night in ER. He was excited about the grilled cheese and potato soup they were bringing him. His breathing is stable (still with lots of support). They did a cardiac ultrasound this evening to check for COVID damage. He has some liver and kidney damage from the virus but they expect that to resolve. His blood pressure is still a bit high and he has some issues with clotting factors that they are addressing.

To Our Church Family

A week ago our Senior Pastor, Peter Horn, was diagnosed with COVID and has been dealing with the symptoms at home. Although our staff, elders and friends have been caring for them and praying, his symptoms did not necessitate church-wide communication. However, over the weekend his symptoms have progressed and he is being cared for at the hospital. He is experiencing breathing issues and we are calling for church-wide prayer. Our Elders will be giving any key updates this Sunday during both service hours.

If you have Peter's or Lisa's contact info, please do not contact them directly so they are not inundated. We will be posting all updates right here on this page.
